I recently left my wedding rings in jewelry cleaner (admittedly) too long, and my solitaire – which is 14K gold – looks fine, while my jacket – the ring that goes over the solitaire, also supposedly 14K – lost all of its shine and is now quite dull and splotchy, almost brown. When I got the jacket, I was told by the jeweler that it was 14K through-and-through, not plated. Is this a normal thing to happen to rings that are 14K gold? If so, why did both rings react so differently, and what do I do now?
